  1. Dear Vadillo Soni, Bhaiyo ane Bahano,
On behalf of the Organising Committee of the Fiji Soni Sneh Milan, 2015 and as the current
President, I extend to all of you our invitation to participate in this year’s Sneh Milan which is to be
held in Fiji from 2nd July to 5th July.
A lot of time and planning has gone into making this event an unqualified success. However, this
success will only be possible through your presence and active participation. A well thought out
program has been finalised by my committee. This programme, undoubtedly, will be for the
enjoyment of both the young and the old.
Our committee through this letter solicits your cooperation in providing us as soon as possible any
old articles of interest pertaining to our Soni Samaj. Hopefully, time permitting we could include
these articles in our souvenir programme. In your old family albums there may be photographs of
special events that would bring back sweet memories of families and friends. These items would
prove invaluable for our young generations.
The first Sonis came to Fiji 109 years ago. They were Virjee Narshi and Chunilal Gangji. Our Samaj has
been occasionally meeting formally and informally in social and cultural events sharing their ideas
and thoughts. Since 1964 when the Soni Samaj was formed, we have been having Samelans and
Sneh Milans in Australia and Fiji – the last being in Brisbane, Australia four years ago.
History has it that at one stage there were 5000 Sonis working and residing in Fiji. Today, we barely
have 500. Our diaspora has spread throughout the world in the last few decades. One of the ways to
remain connected is to organise events of this nature. Many many Sonis have left the stage since the
early get-togethers. The children and grandchildren have fond memories of those who have long left
us. Whist we remember these pioneers with love and affection, let us too leave behind the 2015
Samelan with fond memories so that future generations would be proud of us.
We look forward to welcoming you all back to Fiji, the place which was once your home.
    Jai Hingraj Mataji
    Sincerely yours
    Romit Meghji
